Hello 5th Grade Families!
I hope you all had a wonderful time enjoying Spring Break with your students! Thank you again to everyone who came to Parent Teacher Conferences before the break. We have a very busy first week back from Spring Break. We will be taking the Illinois Science Assessment on Wednesday morning, be sure your students are well rested! We will also be celebrating Everybody Counts Week and starting Maker Club during Recess on Mondays and Fridays!.
We hope you can join us for World of Work on Thursday! Thank you to all of our parent volunteers! Students will find out where they are working on Monday at the end of the day, try to invite friends and family to stop by and support this wonderful event! Students should wear their 5th grade tshirts and dress professionally (no holes, no sweatpants, etc.). The students will WALK from City Hall to their job rain or shine! Check the weather on Thursday!
In the week before Spring Break, students finished up their authentic writing projects by preparing resumes and interview answers for World of Work. We also celebrated our Book Launch during Reading and continued to explore the genre of poetry. In Math, we enjoyed exploring real world applications of percents and fractions by doing some imaginary shopping! In Social Studies, we continued to learn about the pros and cons of both sides during the Revolutionary War.
This week will be very busy with all of our special events, but we will also be doing plenty of learning! We will finish up Unit 8 in Math and take our Celebration of Learning on Friday. In Social Studies, we will explore the strategies that allowed the Continental Army to defeat one of the largest armies in the world. We will also continue to learn about appreciating various forms of poetry during Reader’s Workshop.
