We’ve had a busy week back from Thanksgiving break! The students were wonderfully flexible this week as I was one of the many people out sick this week. With cold and flu season underway, please take a moment to review this information from the Cook County Health and Hospitals System.
This past week, we started working with fractions in Math class! In Spelling and Grammar we focused on using Homophones properly. In Reading we learned about inferring and coding the text with our thoughts. We started our Science unit on Water and the students are excited to be doing hands-on experiments again! The students also began the process of learning how to effectively write persuasive writing. It looks like we have a few very convincing arguments shaping up for special gifts this season!
In the coming week, we will be learning new concepts about fractions including equivalent fractions and decimals. We will be starting a short, differentiated Reading unit focusing on historical fiction. Mr. Murray’s class and mine will be mixing it up to give students what they need to be successful. For our persuasive writing, we will begin researching evidence to support our logical points in the computer lab. In Science, we will continue to learn about the properties of water and the water cycle.
