Hello 5th Grade Families!
I hope you took advantage of the lovely weather on this three day weekend! We kicked off the weekend by having our Friday afternoon class outside! This Friday is Greenbrier’s 3rd Annual Read-A-Thon! Be sure to check your shelves for any gently used books that can be donated to our Open Books Book Drive! Tuesday is also the last day to submit orders for our class book, The Moment. Make sure to send yours in Backpack Mail before it is too late!
We enjoyed a very fun Valentine’s Day thanks to all of our parent volunteers! As readers, we finished up our Fiction Celebration of Learning and then did some close reading of mysteries to brush up on our PARCC reading and writing skills. We also dug deeply into the meanings of Greek and Latin root words, prefixes, and suffixes. In Writing, the students worked so hard to finish up their Narratives! They are so excited to publish our class book! In Math, we finished up our practice adding and subtracting fractions and will take a short quiz on Tuesday. We also finished up our Science unit on the Human Body by creating and giving feedback on our final models! They look amazing!
This week will feel very short with the Monday off and our Read-A-Thon on Friday! In the three days we have together, we will still accomplish a lot! On Tuesday, we will take a short fraction quiz in Math and then move on to adding and subtracting with mixed numbers and multiplying fractions. In Writing, we will focus on research writing and constructing responses within a given time period. In Social Studies, we will begin learning about the Second Continental Congress and the Declaration of Independence! Also, we will kick off our poetry unit in Reading this week!
- Check for those gently used books for our Book Drive! Our Read-A-Thon is also a wear blue and orange day to welcome our BG Reading Buddies!
- Mrs. Bingaman’s Weekly Update is always full of great information!
