Hello 5th Grade Families!
The first half of PARCC Testing is finished! We have three PARCC tests left on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday! Make-up testing for absent students will be on Monday and Thursday. This week, you should have received permission slips for World of Work, Robert Crown, and our Thomas Middle School Tour! Please return those permission slips as soon as possible! Report Cards also went home in Backpack Mail this weekend!
Last week, we finished all of the PARCC ELA tests and one of the PARCC Math tests! The students are doing a great job staying positive and giving their best effort! In Reading, we explored theme, author’s purpose, and conflict in poetry. In Math, we continued to learn more about fractions by practicing fraction multiplication in story problems. In Writing, we finished up our exploration of ethos, logos, and pathos in persuasive advertisements. In Social Studies, we continued to examine the birth of our nation in the American Revolution.
This week, in addition to finishing three PARCC assessments, students will start to put the finishing touches on their Genius Hour projects! Sharing Day is on March 23rd! In Math, we will start to explore the different relationships between fractions and division. In Social Studies, we will explore the ways that America was able to defeat one of the largest armies in the world in the American Revolution. In Writing, studies will start to apply ethos, logos, and pathos to their own persuasive essays. In Reading, we will set Poetry strategy goals for ourselves and continue to explore the wonderful world of poetry!
