Hello 5th Grade Families!
It was so wonderful to see many of you at Back to School Night celebrating with your children! We are so grateful to the PTA volunteers for putting on such a wonderful event for us every year!
Classroom Community Updates
In Math, we have established routines for Math Workshop and explored the necessary role of communication and collaboration when doing math. Students will continue to practice the Math Workshop routines this week as we roll into the end of our Launch unit and begin practicing Bar Modeling and Problem Solving. In Reading, students are hard at work analyzing themselves as readers with Reading Logs and practicing their reading stamina! This week, we will continue to reflect on reading habits while making thinking visible through Stop and Jots and class discussions. In Writing, the students set up their Writing Journals in Google Docs which will allow them to practice keyboarding in an authentic way as they practice personal narrative writing. This week, students will continue to hone in their personal narrative skills by focusing on showing their stories through sensory details. As scientists, students have been discussing their theories on why days are shorter in winter and longer in summer and this week we will continue to do some hands-on modeling to discover the reason for the seasons! We hope you are checking out all of the exciting times on our classroom Twitter Page!
