As we enter April, 5th grade goes into one of our busiest months! We do not have a single week that does not have a special event or activity planned. Be sure to read my Reminders section for upcoming important dates.
PARCC Testing will be taking place the weeks of 4/11 and 4/18 in the morning. Please check the reminders section for specific dates and please consider these testing windows when scheduling appointments that will cause your child to miss school. The students have been working very hard all year to prepare for the tests! As these are morning tests, please be sure students are coming to school on time, well-rested, and well-fed in order to feel prepared for the tests. Thank you for all you do to help your children succeed academically!
In our first week back, we had our visit to Thomas Middle School and our first session of Robert Crown The Science Behind Drugs and Prevention. If you or your children have any questions or concerns, feel free to email me! We finished up our Social Studies unit on the Constitution and started our creative project. In Reading we continued learning about poetry while honing our vocabulary and figurative language skills. In Math, students continued to learn how to multiply and manipulate fractions and percentages. In Language Arts, we did some practice for the rigorous PARCC writing sections.
This week, we will have Everybody Counts on Thursday and Friday and well as some rehearsals for the upcoming Music Show. We will continue to explore poetry as we learn to analyze poetic devices and respond to poetry in writing. In Language Arts we will explore the real world writing skill of preparing a resume for World of Work! In Math, we will learn about division of fractions and then take the test by the end of the week! In Social Studies, we will have the Constitution Quiz on Tuesday continue our New Constitution project!
