We had an exciting week in fifth grade from Robert Crown to Billy Goats Gruff to the Chicago Symphony Orchestra! This coming week will be a calmer one with fewer special events and more time to focus on finishing up some units of study.
Classroom Community Updates
In Math, we finished working on decimal division and used number sense to understand if our answer was reasonable. This week, we will move into the last lessons of Chapter 9 with a focus on real world applications of decimal operations. In Writing, the students have been continuing to practice their skills with forming the shape of a story and this week we will move into constructing their final short fiction stories. In Reading, students have been hard at work on their nonfiction skills by reviewing story structure and specifically studying the many examples of cause/effect and problem/solution in books about human impact on the environment. Next week, students will add to their research skills by working on questioning the text and understanding specialized vocabulary. Tuesday is the last day of Social Studies for the students! They will be starting Science next week!
