After two short weeks, I am looking forward to being with the students for a full five days this week! We will be doing a lot of learning in the upcoming week as we move into the second half of October. Don't forget to check out all of the fun on our class Twitter account!
This past week, we celebrated our first 30 days in our Best Year Ever! We also kicked off our Social Studies unit on causes of the American Revolution. In Reading, students expanded on their knowledge of nonfiction text structures and features. Students also continued to use their creative and descriptive writing skills through our narrative lessons and on a special Halloween writing piece. In Math, we dove into geometry skills such as angle measuring, geometry vocabulary, and using protractors.
This week is our annual Food Drive! Please consider donating paper goods (paper towels, toilet paper, baby wipes, etc.) this week to the 5th grade collection. We will look more closely at events leading up to the Revolution such as the French and Indian War, Proclamation of 1793, the Quartering Act, and much more! In Math, students will continue to build up their geometry skills by using compass skills, analyzing 2D shapes, and determining angle measures. In Writing, students will begin the process of planning their large narrative writing piece. In Reading, students will begin to analyze nonfiction text subgenres and structures in depth.
