I hope you are enjoying the last of the four-day weekend with your children! We had a lovely day for our historical Reenactment Field Trip on Thursday! Check out the district’s YouTube video to see some of our students enjoying the day! MAP test results also went home in Thursday’s Backpack Mail. Please review these results and email me if you have any questions or concerns.
Thank you to those of you who sent in your donation to the Room Rep party fund! For those of you who have not sent in your envelopes yet, please consider responding to the donation letter that our Room Reps sent out a few weeks ago. All donations will go towards your students having a wonderful time at our holiday parties! The Room Reps are also looking for the following donated items for our Halloween Party: 25 rolls of toilet paper, 4 table cloths, 50 cups, 1 case of mini water. If you can donate any of the following items, please send it with your child by 10/20/15.
Although we had a four-day week, it was filled with excitement and hard work! We finished up the Launching unit during Reader’s Workshop and are going to jump into the Nonfiction unit next. We also finished up our Human Body Science unit and kicked off our Social Studies unit with the Historical Reenactment on Thursday. In Math, we finished up our Unit 2 Celebration of Learning and then we worked on extended response mathematical skills. Spelling Workshop is rolling right along with most students on their third round of assessment. Students also got their online Biblionasium accounts started! A letter went home in Backpack Mail with log in information.
In this coming week, students will have plenty of hard work and fun to keep them busy! We are starting our Nonfiction unit in Reading, and will be spending several weeks working on nonfiction reading strategies. Students should also be setting their own weekly reading goals and logging their reading on Biblionasium. In Social Studies, the first thing we will be doing is studying the social and political climate and events leading up to the American Revolution. In Writing, the students will continue to build their narrative writing skills as they create vivid stories for the reader. In Math, we will start Unit 3, which mostly focuses on Geometry skills.
