We have another busy week in 5th grade! It is Allergy Awareness Week in District 25! We will be wearing teal to kick off the week on Monday and to end the week on Friday. This week is also Healthy Gators Week to get students excited for the Fun Run on Friday! If your child qualified to be screened for Advanced Math or Advanced Language Arts, you should have received an email on Friday. The Advanced Language Arts test will be on Wednesday and the Advanced Math test will be on Thursday! Thursday afternoon is also our final Robert Crown session. Between all of that fun stuff, we will be doing lots of learning!
Classroom Community Updates
In Math, we finished up our lessons from Chapter 9 with real-world word problems. Our test for Chapter 9 will be on Tuesday and we will jump right ahead into Chapter 14 on Volume and Surface Area! In Writing, students are working on their final Fiction Short Stories and will be moving through the drafting and editing process throughout the week. In Reading, we are about halfway through the final unit, so students will take their first Nonfiction Skills Check and begin using their reading skills to research a preferred topic about ecosystems. I finally have my class back for our final science unit on Ecosystems! Last week, we explored the Yellowstone phenomenon and established initial theories. This week, we will explore how living things get what they need through ecosystem interactions.
