We had another wonderful week in 5th grade! We celebrated our Sesquicentennial Day (150th Day), had a visit from Robert Crown, and celebrated student culture with the Multicultural Fair! On Wednesday, Greenbrier also celebrated reading while raising money for Tanzanian students during our school-wide Read-a-Thon! Check our classroom Twitter for some fun pictures from the week! End of Year PARCC Testing is happening this week! Please read the Reminders section for the important dates and times!
Students took their Unit 8 Math Celebration of Learning on fractions and moved on to coordinate graphing in Unit 9! We continued reading Among the Hidden while analyzing vocabulary words and using text evidence to support our opinions. In Writing, students began to develop the exposition, conflict, and rising action of their short stories. These are some exciting realistic fiction stories! In Science, students learned through hands-on experiments how energy transfers from one form or location to another.
In Math, students will continue to learn about coordinate graphing as well as area formulas for geographic shapes. The rising action in Among the Hidden is getting more and more tense and the students will analyze the author’s choice in narration, word choice, as well as summarizing main events. In Writing, we will shift our focus to developing primary and secondary characters in our own stories. In Science, students will learn how different materials affect the transfer of energy.
-The PARCC End of Year testing will be taking place on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday of this week at 10:15 AM. Make sure your child comes to school well rested and well fed to perform his/her best on the test!
-This Friday is the Fun Fair! I hope to see you all there!
