Welcome to our last week together in 2016! It is also Spirit Week, so be sure to check the schedule and help your child show some school spirit on our last week together. This week we are also selling Winter Gator Grams to benefit Greenbrier’s Annual Read-A-Thon and Book Drive! Students should have already received their pre-ordered cards, and all cards will be on sale for 50 cents during lunch on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday!
We had so much fun celebrating Computer Science Education Week! We began printing our 3D designs from TinkerCAD, learned how to code with Mrs. Paulson, and played CodeCombat with Mrs. Akdeniz! We hope you saw the fun on our classroom Twitter page! In addition to learning how to code, we also finished up Unit 4 in Math by taking our Celebration of Learning! In Writing and Social Studies, the students used their descriptive writing skills and knowledge of different historical perspectives to finish their creative writing pieces! We also began our new science unit on the human body with some inquiry on how bodies work and what happens when those systems break down.
This week starts with an exciting event for our Greenbrier Chorus members, good luck at your performance tomorrow afternoon! We will continue inquiry into the systems of the human body by determining what muscles need to function from the circulatory and respiratory systems. In Writing, students will be continuing to strengthen their writing skills by embracing the “Show, Don’t Tell” mindset and using many sensory details. In Math, the students will synthesize all of the skills they have learned in the first half of the year by doing some research based on real-world party planning. In Reading, we will finish up our Nonfiction unit by having our Celebration of Learning on Thursday and Friday!
