We had another successful week! Don’t forget to check out the photos on Twitter to peek in on all of the fun we have in Room 234.
New Scholastic Book Orders went home on Friday! If you would like to order online with a credit or debit card, please use our classroom code in the upper left corner of the forms (NFVR6). All online and paper Scholastic Book Orders will be due on the second Friday of the month! My Math students have also started Unit 2, which contains many different mathematical algorithms. If these algorithms are new to you, the Everyday Mathematics site has links to explanatory videos for you to view.
This week was full of thrilling Science lessons! Students participated in many hands on experiments which explored everything from bone strength to muscle fatigue. In Math, we started the week going over Extended Response problems to become PARCC-ready mathematicians, and then began Unit 2! We also started My Brother Sam is Dead in Reading class. This engaging novel will give a personal face to our upcoming Social Studies unit on the American Revolution. Our young authors also started focusing on establishing setting in their writing.
Unit 2 in Everyday Mathematics will continue with students learning even more mathematical algorithms to keep in their “mental math toolbox”. My Brother Sam is Dead will continue with a focus on responding to literature using evidence from the text. In Writing, we will focus in on setting as well as revisit and revise some of our former writing. In Science, we will continue to discover more about the body as we explore how muscles are able to move our bodies.
