I was so happy to see most of you at Gator Rock this past Friday! The students had a great time and the 5th Grade Finale was such a fun way to end the night. One big shift to our schedule due to our snow days is that the Spring Conference days have been turned into regular attendance days. Keep your eye out for more information on how we can discuss your child’s progress in the coming weeks. Don't forget that you can always contact me at any time during the year if you have any concerns about your child's progress.
We are almost halfway through The Liberation of Gabriel King and the students have grown as readers as well as authors. We are exploring figurative language, sensory details, context clues, and writing using evidence. In Math, we finished up Hands-On Algebra, practiced a few PARCC extended responses problems, and then began Unit 6 in Everyday Mathematics. In Science, we finished up the Watery Earth unit with a Celebration of Learning on the Explain Everything iPad app!
We will start back in on Social Studies with the Revolutionary War! Students will learn all about the struggles each side faced as they fought for their country. In Math we are focusing on gathering, organizing, interpreting, and displaying accurate data! We will continue to read The Liberation of Gabriel King as we apply our knowledge of historical figures to the fictional characters. Students will also prepare for PARCC style responses by using evidence in their literary responses.
