Room 234 is gearing up for another exciting week! I’m sure nothing will top the events of Friday afternoon, but we can try our best! If your child is struggling to process our Shelter in Place event or could benefit from talking to an adult, Mrs. Silva (Social Worker) or I would be glad to help. Just email, call, or send a note to school. I’m sure there were many students who were also sad that back to School Night was cancelled, but Mrs. Bingaman and the PTA are working hard to reschedule the event!
The students received their logins for Everyday Mathematics Online, Khan Academy, and Google (same as last year). They also tried out their Dropbox accounts with the iPads and everything ran smoothly! In Grammar, we focused on conjunctions by creating a reference page in our Literacy Notebooks. The students are doing a great job multitasking with Snack and Grammar at the same time! The students took their first Spelling Pre-Test on Thursday and should have come home with their own unique list of 20 circled spelling words. During Math, the students have been reviewing their math facts while we focus on factors, prime numbers, and composite numbers. We spent a week of Reading delving into Greek Mythology while practicing summarizing and determining theme using evidence from the text. The authors in our class have created some spectacular narrative pieces using very focused details during Writing Time. The Human Body Unit also continued as we focused on bones and joints. For daily updates from the classroom, don't forget to check or follow our Twitter page!
The students will get their XtraMath and Reading Rewards logins this week! They should try logging on to both accounts Monday night if they have time. Please contact me with any issues. In Grammar, we will move from conjunctions to prepositions as they add to their Literacy Notebooks. The first Spelling Test will be on Thursday! Make sure students are practicing their words (if they enjoy technology, try Spelling City)! Our Unit 1 Math Test will be Friday, which means all Unit 1 Math Boxes are also due Friday. This week in Reading we will be working on a project in the Library with Mr. Murray’s class and Mrs. Paulson! The students will put those summarizing skills to the test as they create their very own comics! In Writing, we will continue to explore how important focus remains in our writing. Science will continue to focus on bones and joints with the students ultimately making their own model of a human joint out of household items!
