Believe it or not, Parent Teacher Conferences will be here in a few short weeks! Be sure to check you email at the start of October to sign up for a time to meet with me! I’m looking forward to touching base about your child’s progress before report cards go home in November!
Classroom Community Updates
Last week, students finished up Chapter 1 in Math and we dove right into Chapter 2 focusing on multiplying by powers of ten. This week, students will continue to build upon their multiplication knowledge as we multiply multi-digit numbers using our knowledge of place value to check if our answers are reasonable. In Science, students discovered that we have different seasons due to the tilt of the Earth’s axis. This week, students will do some quick check assessments and work on their final Science models before the unit ends on Friday. In Reading, students continued to work on their book club skills and making their thinking visible in reading by using Stop and Jot strategies. In the coming week, students will build upon those skills and work on adding more Notice and Note skills into their toolbox. Students also set Reading Goals this week. Ask your child how many books they plan to finish by the end of fifth grade! In Writing, students are doing a great job deepening their understanding of the structure of written responses. This week, they will learn about the smaller details in written responses such as quote formatting and transitional words and phrases.
