This is our last week together in 2015! Time flies when you’re having fun! I’m happy to report that most days when clean up time rolls around, students remark about how fast our days fly by. This week will be jam packed with fun activities as well as some final assessments before break.
Last week, many of our students had their Band and Chorus performances. They were so wonderful! We have a very talented bunch this year! We tightened up our response to reading skills as well as studied homonyms, homophones, and homographs. In Math, we learned about comparing fractions, adding fractions, equivalent decimals, and equivalent percents. In Social Studies, the students finished up our learning about the Revolutionary War. In Reading, we continued to analyze fiction in depth by learning about chronological text features, theme, and character development.
In Math, we will finish up Unit 5 by analyzing and exploring percent circle graphs and then taking our test on Wednesday. In Reading, we will continue to learn about fiction through conflict and character development. We will have our Fiction assessment on Thursday before break. We will continue to develop our response to literature and nonfiction while using multiple pieces of evidence to support our thinking. In Social Studies, we will work on our American Revolution Video Projects and take a very small, quick quiz (~10 multiple choice questions) on the concepts on Thursday as well. We do have a few assessments this week, but I want to make sure the students have closure before break so that they do not have anything hanging over their heads and they can relax.
-There is important information about 5th grade transitions to Thomas in Mrs. Bingaman’s Friday Packet. Please be sure to record those dates in your calendars!
