Greenbrier has been hit hard with this season of sickness, but it looks like we are all finally on the mend! We are being very careful at school with washing hands, using hand sanitizer, and cleaning shared spaces. The students have been very flexible with subs as I have also been out a few times in the past two weeks due to illness myself. I’m very proud of how our students acted with the subs! One more fun-filled week to go in 2014! Please read the reminders section for many of the special events happening this week at Greenbrier. Stay healthy for the holidays!
In Math, we really dug into some exciting fraction concepts: equivalent fractions, equivalent decimals, and comparing fractions. The students are becoming fraction experts! In Writing, we have been finishing up typing our persuasive essays. We have been able to come up with some very convincing arguments! In Reading, both classes continued reading historical fiction stories as we worked on our comprehension skills. The students are really enjoying mixing up the classes! In Science, students have learned about everything from aquifers to surface water using hands-on experiences. The students also got to experience a really fun coding lesson with Mrs. Fajks on Wednesday!
In Math, we will finish up half of Unit 5 and take a quiz before the break while the concepts are still fresh in their minds. In Writing, our final persuasive essays will be finished and given to the appropriate audiences. In Reading, we will research how much of our historical fiction tales are rooted in truth and write about our findings. In Science, we will continue to do hands-on experiments to learn about the water available on Earth. On Friday, we will have a morning holiday movie and an afternoon holiday sing along!
