We had a busy and fun-filled week! On Thursday, the 4th and 5th graders spent the afternoon going through their final rehearsal before the big Fright Fest Music Show! I hope to see you all here on Monday night for some spook-tacular entertainment! Thank you all for turning in the Lyric Opera Field Trip forms on time. Look for more information on that trip in the upcoming Weekly Update.
Students added plenty to their Geometry skills as we explored how to use compasses and protractors to add to our knowledge. We also learned the many different vocabulary words and definitions that can be used to describe shapes and angles. During Grammar time, we cemented our knowledge on past, present, and future verb tenses. During Social Studies, we applied our notes from the Revolutionary Encampment Field Trip to make interactive signs for the hallway. We also learned about the Boston Massacre and how perspective influences the history that gets written. During Writing, The students did a wonderful job completing their Misunderstood Monster pieces for the hallway and then revising their former writing to make it even better. During Reading time, the students worked on a cross-curricular Revolutionary War project as they developed their 21st-century research skills.
The Unit 3 Math Test will be on Friday if the week goes as planned. If the students need a little more time, they will take the test on Monday morning. In Reading, we will be starting a new novel, The Wish Giver by Bill Brittain. The novel follows several children who make wishes and then live with the consequences of their choices. This fantasy novel is very fun to read right around Halloween! In Social Studies, we will finish up Chapter 10 and then take a quiz before moving on to Chapter 11. In Grammar, we will explore similes and metaphors and then apply that skill to the writing of our Personal Narratives. On Friday afternoon, our Halloween festivities begin!
-Please remember to fill out and send in the TWO different Halloween information sheets for your child. They should have come home in your student’s Take Home Folder.

-If your child is interested in running for Student Council Leadership Committee, they must attend a meeting in Mrs. Fortman’s room at 8:30 on Tuesday Morning!
