Time is flying in 5th grade! September ends this week as we continue to learn and grow as a team. Please be sure to read the reminders for upcoming important information.
This past week was jam packed with learning activities! We had our first Social Thinking lesson with Mrs. Silva this week on growth mindset and a technology lesson from Mrs. Fajks on Friday. We learned about bone strength and muscle fatigue in Science. In Math, we did a quick review of addition of subtraction algorithms as well as began looking into multiplication algorithms and data analysis. In Writing, we focused on showing, not telling, in our writing. As readers, we learned about book talks and using evidence in literature discussions. We started full Spelling time, so students are all on individualized lists as they work at their own pace.
This week, we will continue working on literature discussions in Reading as students continue to develop comprehension skills. In Math, we will review mean, median, and mode as we jump into multiplication algorithms. In Science, we will learn about the respiratory and circulatory system through hands-on experiments. In Writing, students will start revising their work to make it more focused in order to create a vivid picture for the reader.
-We will have a Hard Lockdown drill on Tuesday. The students will be notified of it before the drill happens.
-On Thursday, October 8th, we will be going on our annual field trip to the Historical Reenactment! Please check backpack mail for permission slips. Please email me fi you cannot find your copy.
-Please read Mrs. Bingaman’s Friday Packet! It is full of valuable information each week!
