I hope you and the students are finding some time for fun over Spring Break. They have been working so hard this is a well-deserved break! Thank you to those of you who signed up for Parent Teacher Conferences. It was so lovely to see you and discuss the wonderful progress everyone is making this year. The end of the year will be here before you know it!
We tweeted many photos from Greenbrier’s Read-A-Thon, make sure to check it out! There is also a link to the Daily Herald article (shout out to Michael for getting a quote in the paper!) in the Friday Packet. We had such a fun day celebrating reading right before Spring Break!
In Reading and Writing, we finished up the first half of our Poetry unit with a focus on seeing the big idea, interpreting poems, and going beyond the literal meanings. In Math, we continued with fractions with a focus on how to multiply mixed numbers and fractions. In Social Studies, the students were able to finish learning about all of the different Branches of Government and also had their first exciting experience with iCivics which is an online gaming world which focuses on the civic duties of citizens in America.
We only have a four day week when we come back from Spring Break, but we have plenty planned! On Thursday we have the first Robert Crown session on the Science Behind Drugs and Prevention. On Friday, the students get to visit and your Thomas Middle School! This is always an exciting day for our 5th graders. In Writing, we will be focusing on preparing for the PARCC ELA tests as well as building persuasive writing skills. In Math, we will finish up Unit 8 with more manipulation and computation of fractions. In Social Studies, we will finish up our Constitution and Branches of Government unit with some review and a quiz.
-Please read Mrs. Bingaman’s Friday Packet! It has important information about PARCC Testing Dates as well as the upcoming Multicultural Fair!
-Students should be keeping up with their Biblionasium Goals over break as well as doing some Math Boxes to keep up and not procrastinate!
