Trimester 2 is officially complete! It is hard to believe we are starting our final trimester tomorrow! I was lucky enough to attend the Illinois Computing Educators conference on Thursday and Friday and I have so much more inspiration for tech-based learning, Maker Club, and STEAM night! Please know that Spring Conference sign up info will be coming to your email on Wednesday, 3/2! Also, Robert Crown Permission slips will be coming home in a stapled packet in Backpack Mail this week. You must sign and return a permission slip for each session you want your child to attend.
We finally had our Rube Goldberg Challenge on Wednesday morning! I hope you saw some of the amazing creations on our Twitter account! We also finished up the Science unit on Energy by studying different forms of renewable vs. nonrenewable energy. The students finished up Unit 7 and Hands-On Algebra this week and had their Celebration of Learning on Friday! In Writing, the students finished up their final Response to Literature using evidence from the text. We also said farewell to The Liberation of Gabriel King by making online avatars through Voki! Check them out here!
In the start of Trimester 3, we will be starting many new units. We are going to start a new Social Studies unit focused on the Constitution and the three branches of government. We will also be moving on to a new poetry unit that will be explored within the context or Reading and Writing. In Math, Unit 8 will be mainly focused on fraction manipulation and computation. Maker Club will also be starting next week on Monday, the 7th!
-Mrs. Bingaman’s Friday Packet has information on how to order Thomas Spirit Wear for your child for next year as well as info on Spring Conferences, Summer U, and more! If you’re interested in signing your child up for Summer U, I’ll be teaching a class called STEAM Read which uses literacy to inspire engineering projects! It’s going to lots of fun!
-I’m also attaching a list of important 5th Grade dates coming up. This is not a comprehensive list, but most of the important dates and times we have so far to include on your calendars!
