It was a busy week in fifth grade, wrapping up several short units and working with a couple different subs while I was out sick! The students did a wonderful job being flexible and trying their best all week long! This upcoming week may also require some flexibility in scheduling! We will see what Mother Nature has in store for us! Stay warm!

In Math, students did a wonderful job applying their geometry knowledge from rectangles and applying them to triangles. We will do some additional work with finding the area of triangles and problem solving this week before moving into Chapter 8 on decimals! In Writing, students worked on their persuasive skills by finding the best evidence to support their stance. This week, we will begin our final persuasive letters by choosing a topic and planning a thesis. In Social Studies, students learned more about Checks and Balances and then took a quiz on the Branches of Government. This week, we will dig deeper into the constitution by learning about the Bill of Rights. In Reading, students sharpened their context clue and text structure skills this week. Next week, we will finish up our exploration of text structure and continue exploring fiction sub genres through questioning.
